PROVIDING PHYSICAL, INFORMATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER BIRTH
A professional doula, is the ultimate companion for expecting, birthing and new mothers and her family. The aim for a doula is to enhance the birth process and they are equipped with knowledge and strategies that can help a mother to birth her baby as normally as possible. While in labour, a doula will support the birthing mum emotionally and physically as well as helping her to maintain the best possible birthing environment that she needs. Because a doula meets the expecting mother and her birth companion several times before birth, she will know exactly what is expected of her on the big day and what role the father/companion wants to take on. A doula is a familiar presence at the hospital where it can be quite daunting and frightening for a woman in labour. Being surrounded by so many strangers is often not very conducive to the natural flow of things. Most fathers/companions love having a doula present throughout labour and birth because she is able to remove the stress factor and enhance their support techniques.
I support expecting, birthing and new mother no matter where and how they decide to birth. Additionally, I only take on one birth per month to ensure that I am fully available and present for 24 hours, two weeks before and after the baby's due date.
My role as a DOULA
Before birth, I will develop a relationship with you and your husband/partner/companion during my pre-natal visits. I will help you to create a vision of your ideal birth and to develop your birth plan or birth preferance. If you are interested, I will teach you breathing and relaxation techniqes that can help you to have an easier and more comfortable birthing process. During labour I will support you emotionally and physically, as well as helping to maintain the correct birthing environment that you need in order to have the best birth possible. My overall aim is to serve your needs and to focus exclusively on your beliefs about birth. Which means I will not impose my own ideal of childbirth on you. I'll only give you my opinion if you ask me.
I support expecting, birthing and new mother no matter where and how they decide to birth. Additionally, I only take on one birth per month to ensure that I am fully available and present for 24 hours, two weeks before and after the baby's due date.
